Leading the State in Responsible Solid Waste Management

The Award Winning District Recycling Center is the largest publicly owned and operated facility in the state of Ohio. The Portage County Solid Waste District was recognized as one of two premier programs in the State at the October 2004 Partners for Sustainability Conference in Aurora, OH.  The Leadership Award was presented on behalf of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the Ohio Dept. of Naturnal Resources, the Organization of Solid Waste Mangement Districts of Ohio, and other sponsor agencies.

The District Recycling Center currently processes an average of 50 tons per day of mixed recyclables received from businesses and households in Portage and surrounding counties and offers a wide variety of other recycling and waste management programming throughout the County.
